In September 2004 we packed up our home in the UK and flew into Perth to spend a year touring around Australia in a car and caravan.
Our route initially took us north as far as Exmouth before returning south again. This got us away from the cool Perth spring weather and also gave us the opportunity to shake out any problems with the car and caravan.
We then set off anti-clockwise around Oz. Our only deadline was to be in the Cairns area in May in order to cross the top end in the dry season to get back to Perth by the end of August 2005. We returned in 2007 and spent 3 weeks travelling around Tasmania.

If you hover over the yellow dots some details of the campsite will be displayed.
All the photos were taken by us and all the creatures you see were photographed in the wild.

See below for our entries in Western Australia. Western Australia is vast, it occupies over 977,000 square miles which is about one third of the Australian Continent. It only has a population of 1.8 million of which 1.4 million live around the Perth area so WA is not a very crouded place! Perth itself is the remotest capital city in the world.

Victoria is the smallest mainland state with an area of 87,000 sq miles but the most densely populated and urbanised with a population of around 5.5M. Victoria's claim to fame is that you can experience all four seasons in one day, and it's true!

New South Wales covers an area of 309,000 sq miles and with a population of 6.9m.

See below for our entries in Queensland. Queensland is the second largest state covering an area of 670,000 sq miles and with a population of approx 4.2M who mostly live along the Pacific coast.
NOTE: Queensland National Parks were changing to a Pre-Booking system. To ensure a site, you had to phone and pay for for a booking number in advance. Most sites did not have phone connections so it might be worth checking in advance. It was a crazy system and hopefully it won't last. |

See below for our entries in the Northern Territory. The Northern Territory is the third largest division after Queensland with an area of 521,000 sq miles but is the most sparsly populated with a population of around 220,000. It is not a State but is managed by the federal government. The largest city is Darwin with a population of around 120,000 and most of the rest of the population live in small towns dotted along the Stuart Highway which runs south from Darwin.
