Had an adventure today. We drove up a 4 Wheel Drive track to the top of Cape Peron. The track was very sandy and only wide enough for one vehicle but fortunately there were only a handful of others vehicles using it. In all we drove about 90 miles.

We had to let some air out of the tyres to get over the sand and to protect the track but all went well. The countryside here is scrub covered with low bushes and quite a few flowers. Not many trees to be seen growing out of the red sand. There were several saltpans that we had to cross. (You can just see one a bit further along the track in the picture)

Beach on Cape Peron We visited several bays and the colours were amazing.
The bright red desert sand changing into the white beach sand and then the turquoise and blue of the sea and sky.

There is a light beacon at the top of the peninsula and looking down from it we could see Manta Rays, Turtles, Sharks and Dugongs swimming in the shallow water below.

We stopped at another deserted beach on the way back for a swim. The water felt a bit cool getting in but I think that was because the air was so hot..
