The Northern Territory is the third largest division after Queensland with an area of 521,000 sq miles but is the most sparsly populated with a population of around 220,000. It is not a State but is managed by the federal government. The largest city is Darwin with a population of around 120,000 and most of the rest of the population live in small towns dotted along the Stuart Highway which runs south from Darwin.
