From Thurra River we headed north through Cann River and across the boarder into New South Wales to stop in the timber town of Bombala. This is known as Platypus Country so we were hoping to see a platypus or two somewhere. We visited the Platypus Reserve just out of town but we think there must have been a platypus convention somewhere else in Australia because there wasn't one to be seen anywhere. This is where they might have been hiding from us. Can you spot the Platypus? (Buggered if we could!) | ||
The following day we drove up into the mountains to Jindabyne and Thredbo. These are located in the Kosciuszko National Park, which is home to Australia's highest mountain, Mount Kosciuszko at 2228mtrs. We took the ski lift from Thredbo and walked to the Kosciuszko lookout at 2000mtrs. We could have walked to the top of the mountain but might not have made it in time to get the last ski lift back down. I don't think Ali was too sure about the chair lift. This is as close as we got to the top, which was another 3 hours walk away. The intrepid climber approaches Mount Koscioszko |

There was a little bit of snow left towards the summit but the weather was perfect while we were there. This is a famous ski resort in the winter and it is difficult to imagine what it looks like covered in snow. Rams Head |

Back in the valley, there were some beautiful Salmon Gums with their red trunks on the banks of Thredbo River. Salmon Gums alongside the Thredbo River |

The following day we drove down from the mountains to the coastal town of Merimbula to pick up our friends Jane and Graham who were flying in the following day. That evening, two ladies staying in a cabin next to the caravan kidnapped me. They plied me with champagne and I am not sure what happened after that! It was Thelma and Louise alias Marie and Sheila who were having a girlies break for a few days. Did you get to wear all the clothes you brought with you Marie? Thelma & Louise |
